What with everyone being so worried about touching things that may have been touched by others, I have found a magical way to get hold of cash. Whilst performing as a wedding magician in Cambridge last year I realised I don’t need to use cash points anymore, I can simply just use my phone!

So there you have it. No more cashpoints for me. I’ll simply continue to use my iPhone to produce £50 notes at ease…. drinks are on me (when the pubs open)

First of all, I hope everyone out there reading this is doing well and keeping safe. I know these are horrible and strange times we find ourselves in, and above all our health has to be the most important thing right now.

A wedding day is one of the most beautiful days around, and it deserves everything to be right. Having restrictions put in place, and not having your dream days is not even an option in my opinion. This is something that you aim to only do once in your life (ideally) and even if it is not your first time then is still deserves to be the best it can be.

I’ve so far been lucky in that every bride and groom that has had to reschedule has managed to rebook for next year for no additional cost. I know many suppliers have charged for this, which I must say I find disgusting. All of my brides and grooms have rebooked for no additional fee. My fees for 2021 were due to go up but I have frozen them for another year to make sure that this doesn’t cause nay more hardship than it already has.

As a thank you to all of my couples, I will be doing something super special on their big day to make it even more memorable for them and their guests.

So I’m here at my residency, Arbuckles in Downham Market, getting ready to perform my regular magic Monday slot! Lo and behold, it’s no ordinary magic Monday tonight though, it’s a ladies pamper night!

Instead of working my way around the tables of the regular customers, I’m going to be thrown into a room full of over 200 ladies all drinking prosecco…. I’m genuinely feeling scared 🙂

On a serious note, these nights are so much fun. We all have a giggle, the ladies get to have a massage and check out some pamper products, eat some amazing food, and also have the privilege of me entertaining them whilst they are sat waiting for their food! What could make it any better!!!

What a December it’s been for Christmas party magic!!!

Wow…. it’s finally over for another year. December is an absolutely manic time of year for a magician as it’s Christmas party, after Christmas party, after Christmas party! The great thing about Christmas parties are that they are the one time of year that work colleagues get together and give themselves license to let loose and go a bit crazy! I’ve seen some unbelievable things during December from levels of staff you wouldn’t imagine it from!

As the resident magician at Arbuckles, I spent 14 nights during December performing for all of their Christmas bookings at their Downham Market branch. I also had to supply another magician to work alongside me for 5 off those nights which really made a difference as normally during Christmas you’re working on your own. I also provided a 3rd magician to perform at their new venue in Ely as well so it really shows how popular having a close up magician can be.

In addition to Arbuckles I had a blast performing at Kineton Station Mod in the sergeants mess for their Christmas party and had an amazing time working alongside the very talented caricaturist Mengistu. He kindly took the time to draw me and you can see the likeness below (Thanks for the extra chin!!)

Then there was a booking for Dobbies Garden Centre in Kings Lynn, as well as a lunchtime booking for elifesciences too to round it all off.

And now it’s done for another year, and its back to the grind again for 2018 which is shaping up to be bigger and better than ever!

It’s getting closer….. It may seem crazy to talk about your Christmas party when we’re still in September but for those of you that are in charge of planning your events, it’s probably starting to feel like its getting a whole lot closer!

Christmas parties are a fantastic way to relax, let your hair down and celebrate the year you’ve had before you break up for the Christmas and New Year period. You get the opportunity to secretly set up your colleagues with your secret Santa presents and finally get to see your serious boss dance like he’s never danced before!

So why have a magician? Well I can help set your party on a different level than all those other parties that your friends talk about. You’ll be able to tell them that you saw cards vanishing and changing in front of your very eyes, or that you saw a magician borrow your ring, make it disappear and the reappear in the most impossible of locations. Maybe you’ll have seen me borrow one of your £10 notes and make it turn into a £50 in the blink of an eye! Why the cheapest is far from the best option.

When hiring a professional magician for your wedding or party/event, you are not simply paying for the 2 hours of time that they will be performing for. There is so much more that has gone on behind closed doors that people don’t know about.

I know there are magicians out there who are much cheaper than most magicians, but I honestly believe that in the vast majority of cases, this will be evident when it comes to comparing their performances. As a full time magician, I spend every day working on new material and seeing whether something new would make my clients experience even better than it will already be. I practise, read and rehearse for hours every single day when not gigging and I feel that I owe it to my clients to do just that. I have spent years learning new magic, discarding things that aren’t up to my standards, tweaking effects to make them better and I will continue to do so for all that book me. At the end of the day, we all hope we only ever have one wedding day and I want to help you remember it as being absolutely perfect! I came across the picture below and I really do think it sums things up nicely.

Becoming a master of your art takes years and years of practice, and more often than not a lot of failing!!! However the final performance will always be worth it! You wouldn’t hire an amateur photographer and risk not getting the shots that will capture your day so amazingly, so please don’t risk your guests leaving thinking “where did they find that bad magician from?” Lets make them talk about your event for years to come!

Christmas party magic

It sounds crazy to think that we’re already talking about Christmas!!! The reality though, is that those of you that are organising your companies Christmas parties have your venue booked and are now looking at entertainment, if you haven’t already!

For the last 4 Decembers, with this being the 5th year I have been booked to perform for a large companies Christmas event with nearly 600 guests. I am also responsible with providing 3 other magicians to attend with me due to the large size of the group. The fact that I have been asked back for the 5th time in a row proves how much having an entertaining magician at your event can really add that extra bit of sparkle!!

Buckinghamshire’s preferred magician

I love it when I get to perform at a venue that is absolutely new to me. Meeting new suppliers, organisers and discovering amazing new venues is a joy. Recently I was booked to perform at a wedding at Buckinghamshire Railway Centre. One word… WOW! What an absolutely beautiful setting. From the amazing railway tracks outside to the train behind the top table! I’ve added some pictures below for you to see for yourself just how amazing it is.

After the event, I received an email that really made me smile. After seeing my performance and how much fun the bride and groom, and all of their guests had, they asked if I would like to go on their preferred suppliers list. This is such a fantastic thing because it shows that a wedding organiser themselves can see the value that hiring my services would give to an event. “Why do I need a Magician at my wedding?

When I perform at a wedding show or fayre, the typical question that many people ask is “Why do I need a magician, what will they add?” Where do I start……

Firstly, can you remember the last wedding you went to? If so, can you recall the food, the colour of the mens suits or the type of flowers that were on the tables? The answer is more often than not no, and these are the things that people spend huge amounts of money on. You probably won’t remember the songs that the saxophonist was playing either in the background. When you hire a professional close up magician such as myself this will NOT be the case!

If it is during the drinks reception you and your new partner can be whisked off to have your photos taken and you can be assured that you don’t need to worry about how your guests are getting on or whether they are bored. I will mix and mingle with them all and entertain them with a vast array of close up magic from card tricks, money magic, borrowed items vanishing and even incredible feats of mind reading!

If you would like me to perform table magic for your guests then I will visit each table in between the courses of your wedding breakfast and do similar to above. The beauty of close up magic at the tables is that the majority of people sat at tables will not know each other. I can use my magic to bring these groups together and give them an experience that they can share together!

Another great reason is your photographer will LOVE it! They will find it easy to get fantastic reaction shots of all of your guests smiling and laughing. Street Magic…..

Street Magic is something that has become a part of mainstream TV thanks originally to David Blaine, and carried on by the likes of Dynamo. Everywhere I go, when the topic comes up that I am magician everyone wants to see some ‘street magic’. Well a few years ago on a night out I got talking to a few people and mentioned that I was a magician. The first typical response I get is “Show me a trick?”, which is exactly what these 2 guys asked!

One of my favourite effects in magic is something called Torn and Restored. This originally started when a magician would take a newspaper and slowly but surely tear it into smaller and smaller pieces. When he could finally tear it no more, in a flash it would instantly restore into its original full newspaper.

Carrying around a newspaper just wasn’t practical, so over the years magicians have worked out smaller and smaller things to do the same effect with. Going back to the beginning of this blog, below is a video of me performing a version to the two guys I met.

As you can see magic has no limits! 2 guys who I’d never met before and had not imagined that they would see any magic on their night out were left screaming and shouting in amazement! “Lucifer is in the building” is one of my favourite things they screamed 🙂
